Chiara Terraneo
21 March, Spring Equinox
As a visual and gestural artist, my practice explores the fragile and dynamic relationship between bodies and the environment. How do we inhabit our bodies and the spaces around us? How do we interact with the environments we traverse daily? How do we respond to and connect with each other—through skin, voice, smell, physical presence, and absence? What about boundaries? How does space shape us, and how do we shape it?
What is the nature of this dance?
Chiara has a multidisciplinary art education. She studied art and project-based approaches at Art High School B. Luini in Cantù. She pursued Graphic Design at N.A.B.A in Milan and WDKA in Rotterdam, later deepening her knowledge of Photography at C.F.P.R. Bauer in Milan. She has worked in London and Milan as an assistant photographer and graphic designer for renowned studios and publications, including Armando Chitolina Studio, Case da Abitare, and Corraini Edizioni, Fondazione Prada She also worked as an interior photographer around Lake Como for Airbnb and had the privilege of interning as an archivist at the photojournalism agency Magnum Photos in NYC.
Her practice spans multiple disciplines, including Art Direction, Photography, Photo Editing, Graphic Design, Tatooing, Dance, Research, all alongside her primary artistic work.
Drawing, quick sketches, body movement are her most instinctive forms of expression. More recently, painting and dance have become integral parts of her daily practice, as she continuously experiments across media—whether using chalk, charcoal, watercolor, acrylics, gouache, or exploring the relationship between body and space.
Inspired by both everyday life and ancient art and mythology, she creates mobile metal garden sculptures resembling ex-votos dedicated to nature, as well as ceramic vessels. She is currently collaborating with a performance artist to develop a new nomadic space-performance work.
