Huascaran y Huandoy

This is a limited edition of rugs handwoven by women in the Peruvian Andes, inspired by an ancient myth about forbidden love and mountains.

Huascarán, daughter of the Sun, falls in love with a human, Huandoy. The ravens report the love to the king’s ear, who punishes it and turns the lovers into two beautiful arduos mountains, forever covered by snow and forever apart.  It is said that when the ice melts, the two will finally be reunited.

WILDERNESS x I-RiS

Wilderness is a pattern inspired by the experience of riding through wild nature. Created for the Dutch cycling brand I-RIS, I designed it in harmony with the season’s theme. While Iris brought her expertise, knowledge, and production skills—together, the magic happened!

Northern forest animals play among the trees, giant flowers, and the watchful eyes of wild, mysterious creatures. And then—an Amazon riding a deer.
Savage Forest.

Why do you ride your bike into the wild? I wonder…

Anthropologist Joseph Campbell, I believe, might have an answer.

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I think that what we’re really seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our innermost being and reality, so that we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

IPOMOEA
x I-RiS

Ipomoea, Blue Dawn, Morning Glory or Moonflower”
To me.. it’s late warm summertime and child memories. A stubborn flower with skinny, nervous, climbing tendrils that enthusiastically cling the houses walls, the web of countryside fences and twirls and twists around other plants transforming the flower bed, the facades and the balcony into a luscious flower paradise. Blossoming in many colour combinations of white, pink, blue and purple, it grows abundantly and spectacularly and then it disappears.”
